here are loads on on-line helps to support anyone wanting to build a site. Some sites allow you to build on line, whilst others give useful tips and hints.Your best best is either using a search engine or going to a site run by a PC magazine.

For the minute- I will only offer basic advice.

1. Before you build anything- why do you want a site?

2. Look at other departments around the world -what are they trying to achieve? Have they succeeded?

3. Most sites can be built using free software which comes with a magazine- this site was built with a free version of Hot Dog Professional (although it isn't the easiest program for beginners)

4. Even when you think you know what you want- design the site on bits of paper, a page for each page. This can take many hours, and a lot of space, but it's much easier than trying to add a menu item later!

5. Spend time choosing clear and simple colours and layout- even if you are using a program which offers you lots of smart looking options.

6. You cannot pinch other peoples material- but you can borrow their ideas, and if they have made a page which you think is useful, put a link to it rather than try building it again yourself.

7. Be realistic. Don't put a 'weekly news' page on if you are unlikely to have the time to update it! It gets people upset.

8. Similarly, don't put too many 'page under construction' signs about- very annoying.

9. Keep a site simple if you want it to be used, not too much animation, or it will take too long and put of serious users, ie, other chaplains.

10. ...and finally, don't promise yourself that you will stop after one hour of web building- you need to dedicate a lot of time to it, as other Webmasters out there will testify!

All the best- and if you want any advice- drop me a note
