his site has evolved from nearly a year spent searching the Internet for every site of direct relevance to pastoral care and hospital chaplaincy.

Originally focused on the UK, the Hospital Chaplaincy Gateway has expanded to address the lack of an international site serving Hospital Chaplains. It now incorporates many US and an expanding number of world links. The Internet knows no boundaries, and so resources from one country can be of help to us all. When information is country specific, we have tried to make this clear by use of flags.

By bringing these resources together, we aim to link you to material you may never otherwise have found, and also save you many hours of searching irrelevant sites. For example, When researching for this Gateway using search engines, about 3 in 4 sites visited were out of date, irrelevant or had little information of wider value.

This site is mainly about bringing links together rather than offering content directly, but we hope these will be of considerable interest and value. For example, every UK hospital chaplaincy department with a significant site is brought together, as are the main US and world organizations. We decided that resources are best grouped together by speciality. This is a real time saver when looking for prayers, liturgy or sermon ideas directly relevant to your own health care setting, as there is currently very little to be found on the Internet which is any good. This is an area that will be expanding during the next year with help from our regular visitors.

The Hospital Chaplaincy Gateway is not-for-profit, run by a Hospital Chaplain in Devon, England, and does not seek to compete with the site of any official chaplaincy body. It relies heavily on feedback and material from fellow professionals to improve. There may come a time when it needs some financial support to keep going, but that day has not yet dawned (although all contributions towards running costs gratefully received)
